Rail Trespass

Sir Nigel Gresley

There has been a worrying spate of trespass at Whitby Railway Station of late.

One incident involved four youths recklessly running along the parapet. One side is Windsor Terrace. The other side is the glass roof of the station, not designed to directly take the weight of a human.

Another incident involved a young boy walking on the track bed. A steam train was due in.

Put together with the trespassing at Sleights on the line, there appears to be a distinct lack of understanding regarding the stopping distance of a train or indeed any knowledge of the timetables.

The safety of youngsters is paramount so I would urge parents and schools to warn young people of the very real dangers of using the rail tracks as a playground. If any organisations would like to discuss this issue with us or indeed report an incident where a person is putting themselves at risk, please contact us on 01947 601987
